SI-UltraTac 255 Pressure-Sensitive Adhesive
Installation Procedures
Revised: August 2006

SI-UltraTac 255 Adhesive is a pressuresensitive adhesive to be used with VCT, vinyl strip/tile flooring materials and carpet tile. It is solvent free, nonflammable, high in solids, extremely tacky, extra strong, and does not contain hazardous volatile organic compounds per OSHA CFR 1910.1200. This is a specially formulated waterbased adhesive that bonds under high moisture conditions. Consult Sealflex Industries, Inc. for recommendations on specific flooring materials

FLOOR PREPARATION FOR CONCRETE

  • It is REQUIRED that an anhydrous calcium chloride test be properly performed per ASTM 1869to determine vapor emission rates. The project should be at the same temperature and humidity levels expected during normal use. If this is not possible then the environment should be at 6585 degrees F with a relative humidity of 4060%. Failure to properly acclimate the area will result in incorrect test results. Follow the ASTM specifications for preparation of the concrete and remove all existing materials such as paint, adhesives, curing compounds, densifiers, hardeners, sealers or other deleterious materials. Set 3 tests for the first 1,000 square feet and one (1) test for every1,000 square feet there after. Weigh the dishes before setting the test. Seal and weigh immediately upon removal. Do not send to another entity to be weighed. Immediately contact Sealflex Industries, Inc. if the test results are above 8 pounds per 1,000 square feet per 24 hours. Properly document all results and procedures including environmental conditions, i.e. room temperatures, humidity, moisture vapor emission readings, test placements, etc for future reference.

  • The concrete must be free of dust, old adhesive, dirt, paint, wax, grease, oil, curing agents, densifiers, bond breakers or any other substances that could inhibit bonding. Use only mechanical methods to clean existing sub. The concrete must be free of dust, old adhesive, dirt, paint, wax, grease, oil, curing agents, densifiers, bond breakers or any other substances that could inhibit bonding. Use only mechanical methods to clean existing subfloor. Shot blast the concrete as necessary to ensure porosity and penetration of the vapor control system. The steel bead shot size shall be a #230 to #280 mesh profile to obtain a satisfactory surface. Caution: More aggressive shot blasting may require a cementitious skim coat application prior to application of the vapor control system. Do not acid etch or use any other chemical to clean.

  • Prepare like any other adhesive.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

  • Acclimate all materials for at least 48 hours prior to beginning the installation process.

  • Due to varying subfloor conditions, it is always recommended that an adhesion test be performed prior to beginning the installation process.

  • Be sure to remove any excess adhesive immediately using a clean cloth and water. If the adhesive has totally flashedoff and cured, it will be necessary to remove it with a safety solvent cleaner.

  • The following information regarding trowel size is put forward ONLY as a guideline. It is the responsibility of the flooring contractor after consulting with the flooring manufacturer to make the final determination of correct trowel size.

    COVERAGE:
    1/16” X 1/16” X 1/16” VNotch: 150200 sq. ft. per gallon
    1/16” X 1/32” X 1/16” VNotch: 210240 sq.ft. per gallon
    1/16” X 1/32” X 5/64” VNotch: 275290 sq.ft. per gallon

  • Vinyl strip/tile flooring, VCT, Carpet Tile: Use the recommended trowel size (consult flooring manufacturer) and spread the SI UltraTac 255 in the area intended. Let the adhesive dry (flashoff) completely until the adhesive has changed color to a translucent appearance. Dependent on internal acclimation, this may take several hours to achieve a dry, translucent, tacky state. Install flooring at this point. DO NOT ALLOW THE SI UltraTac 255 TO REMAIN EXPOSED ON THE FLOOR FOR OVER 6 HOURS. SPREAD ONLY THE AMOUNT OF ADHESIVE THAT CAN BE SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED WITH FLOORING MATERIALS DURING THE 6 HOUR TIME FRAME.

  • Roll flooring with an articulated roller lengthwise and widthwise, and then at a right angle to the first line of direction per flooring manufacturers instructions. (Resilient flooring: 75100 lbs.) Roll shortly after the installation process and again several hours later.

  • Areas should be protected from foot traffic for at least 24 hours and from any heavy traffic, furniture or fixture placement, wheeled traffic or maintenance operations for at least 72 hours.

  • SI UltraTac 255 adhesive should be stored in a cool, dry space away from oxidizers or caustics. Even though this product is solvent free, proper ventilation should always be provided per the requirements of CRI 104. This product has been tested through 4 freeze thaw cycles; however, it is recommend that it not be allowed to freeze. Do not reuse the empty containers, and keep the container closed when not in use. The shelf life is 1 year from the production date indicated on an unopened container.

CLEAN UP
When in the wet, white milky stage, clean with soap and water. When the adhesive has flashedoff (dried), use a safety solvent to remove from flooring and tools.

FIRST AID: (Reference MSDS for complete details)
Permissible exposure level: Threshold limit not established
Effect of exposure/inhalation: No acute effects expected
Skin: None known
Eyes: Contact with eye may cause irritation
Ingestion: Do not ingest. Target organs not known

FIRST AID PROCEDURES:
Eyes: Flush with water. Skin: When in wet state, wash skin with soap and water. When flashedoff(dried), use a safety solvent to remove from skin. Ingestion: For small amounts, rinse mouth with water until taste is gone. For large amounts, do not induce vomiting; contact a physician immediately.
