 SI-UltraTac 200 Adhesive
Installation Procedures

Revised: 11 November 2006

SI UltraTac 200
is a wet-set, hard setting adhesive to be used with heterogeneous and homogenous sheet vinyl, rubber, linoleum and carpet requiring a wet-set installation. It is solvent free, non-flammable, high in solids, extra strong, and does not contain hazardous volatile organic compounds per OSHA CFR 1910.1200. This is a specially formulated water-based adhesive that bonds under high moisture conditions. Consult Sealflex Industries, Inc. for recommendations on specific flooring materials.

Limitations: Some manufacturers produce materials that are dimensionally unstable, exhibit some degree of dimensional dynamics by characteristic or exposure to vapor transmission, are extremely sensitive to telegraphing or employ an ineffective scrim. Therefore it is recommended that the manufacturer be contacted to inquire about the characteristics of the flooring material being considered, as our warranty does not cover such issues. Do not use to install any flooring material that may exhibit any dimensional instability such as solid or engineered wood or thin (less than 2mm) rubber products. The use of convex urethane casters used on most hospital beds can exert a tremendous amount of pressure on resilient floors, causing indentations, adhesive displacement and/or buckling problems. In addition, this system should not be employed in other areas where it would be subjected to exceedingly high rolling loads such as heavy carts, pallet jacks, forklifts, etc.

FLOOR PREP AND PLANNING – CONCRETE

  • It is REQUIRED that an anhydrous calcium chloride test be properly performed per ASTM 1869 to determine vapor emission rates. The project should be at the same temperature and humidity levels expected during normal use. If this is not possible then the environment should be at 65-85 degrees F with a relative humidity of 40-60%. Failure to properly acclimate the area will result in incorrect test results. Follow the ASTM specifications for preparation of the concrete and remove all existing materials such as paint, adhesives, curing compounds, densifiers, hardeners, sealers or other deleterious materials. Set 3 tests for the first 1,000 square feet and one (1) test for every 1,000 square feet thereafter. Weigh the dishes before setting the test. Seal and weigh immediately upon removal. Do not send to another entity to be weighed. Immediately contact Sealflex Industries, Inc. if the test results are above 8 pounds per 1,000 square feet per 24 hours. Properly document all results and pro-cedures including environmental conditions, i.e. room temperatures, humidity, moisture vapor emission readings, test placements, etc for future reference.

  • If the result of the vapor emission test is above 8.0 pounds, contact Sealflex Industries, Inc, and do NOT use the SI-UltraTac 200 adhesive.

  • The concrete must be free of dust, old adhesive, dirt, paint, wax, grease, oil, curing agents, densifiers, bond breakers or any other substances that could inhibit bonding. Use only mechanical methods to clean existing subfloor. Do not acid etch or use any other chemical to clean. The concrete MUST BE porous in order for the Sealflex Industries, Inc. UltraTac 200 to be used. Do not use this product over sealed or non-porous concrete, as adhesion will be incomplete.

  • Fill cracks, holes, and depressions using a quality Portland cementitious compound, preferably acrylic modified.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

  • Acclimate all materials for at least 48 hours prior to beginning the installation process.

  • Due to varying sub-floor conditions, it is always recommended that an adhesion test be performed prior to beginning the installation process.

  • Be sure to remove any excess adhesive immediately using a clean cloth and water. If the adhesive has total-ly flashed-off and cured, it will be necessary to remove it with a safety solvent cleaner.

  • The following information regarding trowel size is put forward ONLY as a guideline. It is the responsibility of the flooring contractor after consulting with the flooring manufacturer to make the final determination of correct trowel size.

  • COVERAGE:
    1/16” X 1/16” X 1/16” V-Notch: 150-200 sq. ft. per gallon
    1/16” X 1/32” X 1/16” V-Notch: 210-240 sq.ft. per gallon
    1/16” X 1/32” X 5/64” V-Notch: 275-290 sq.ft. per gallon

  • FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW TO ENSURE OPTIMUM RESULTS. THE ADHESIVE MUST STILL BE WET IN ORDER TO FORM PROPER BOND CONTACT WITH THE SUBSTRATE AND FLOORCOV-ERING. DO NOT INSTALL THE SI-ULTRATAC 200 ON A DRY SET (PRESSURE-SENSITIVE) BASIS. DO NOT ALLOW ADHESIVE TO COMPLETELY SET-UP AND BECOME CLEAR BEFORE INSTALLING FLOOR-COVERING MATERIALS.

  • Heterogeneous/homogenous vinyl or rubber sheet, tile or plank: Example: If using a 1/16” x 1/32” x 5/64” V-Notch (consult flooring manufacturer for recommended size) let the adhesive flash-off for approximately 10 min-utes to 20 minutes. Install the flooring material BEFORE the adhesive begins to become clear (flash-off) or tack. The adhesive will still be wet at this point. Always refer to the floor covering manufacturer’s specific installation instructions regarding seaming procedures and specialty adhesives that may be required at the seams.

  • Linoleum (Tile or Sheet): Example: If using a 3/32” V-Notch (consult flooring manufacturer for recommended size) let the adhesive flash-off for approximately 30 minutes to 45 minutes. Install the flooring material BEFORE the adhesive begins to become clear (flash-off) or tack. The adhesive will still be wet at this point. Allow for rec-ommended expansion/contraction when laying out the sheet linoleum.

  • Action backed, unitary backed, or axminster/wilton backed carpets may require a 1/8” x 1/8” x 1/16” V-Notch whereas jute backed, enhancer backed, or rubber (sponge or foam) backed carpets may require a 3/32” x 3/32” x 3/32” V-Notch (consult carpet manufacturer for recommended size). Follow the above referenced instruction for carpet and let the adhesive flash-off for approximately 30 minutes. Install the flooring material BEFORE the adhesive begins to become clear (flash-off) or tack. The adhesive will still be wet at this point.

  • Roll flooring with an articulated roller lengthwise and widthwise, and then at a right angle to the first line of direction per flooring manufacturers instructions. Roll shortly after the installation process and again several hours later.

  • Areas should be protected from foot traffic for at least 24 hours and from any heavy traffic, furniture or fixture placement, wheeled traffic or maintenance operations for at least 72 hours.

  • SI UltraTac 200 adhesive should be stored in a cool, dry space away from oxidizers or caustics. Even though this product is solvent free, proper ventilation should always be provided per the requirements of CRI 104. This product has been tested through 4 freeze thaw cycles; however, it is recommend that it not be allowed to freeze. Do not reuse the empty containers, and keep the container closed when not in use. The shelf life is 1 year from the production date indicated on an unopened container.

CLEAN UP

  • When in the wet, white milky stage, clean with soap and water. When the adhesive has flashed-off (dried), use a safety solvent to remove from flooring and tools.

FIRST AID (Reference MSDS for complete details)

  • Permissible exposure level: Threshold limit not established
Effect of exposure/inhalation: No acute effects expected

Eyes: Contact with eye may cause irritation
Ingestion: Do not ingest. Target organs not known

FIRST AID PROCEDURES:

  • Eyes: Flush with water. Skin: When in wet state, wash skin with soap and water. When flashed-off (dried), use a safety solvent to remove from skin.
